Black Monday participants calling for the release of prisoners of conscience
Boeng Kak community activists calling for the release of prominent woman land rights activist Tep Vanny, four officials for human rights group ADHOC and one official for National Election Committee (NEC) during the 30th 'Black Monday' protest at Boeng Kak lake area in Phnom Penh.
Ms. Vanny was arrested by authorities during the 15th 'Black Monday' protest on August 15, 2016 and August 22, 2016, She was convicted of ‘insulting a public official’ relating to the demonstration. Four officials for ADHOC and one official for National Election Committee were imprisoned at the beginning of May 2016 on bribery charges over a sex scandal involving the opposition Cambodia, Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Vice President Kem Sokha. Many activists claim that this is an wrongfully imprisoned and they hold a demonstration against the government for the release of 6 prisoners of conscience every Monday.
