About us
Managing media is what we do
We didn’t wake up one day with an idea for a profitable business. Managing media was always what we did. The goal was to find ways to do it better. In the space of two decades, our own ideas and innovation, and those of our clients, have become the foundations of a world class media and consent management platform.

Our story
Powered by passion, ethics and great ideas
LightRocket wasn’t born in a flash. It has slowly grown and evolved over decades. The development of our system, and the ideas behind it, have been fed by our own first hand experience, as media professionals and archive owners.
These were problems we wanted to solve ourselves. And when we did, we wanted to share that value with other organisations.
LightRocket is powered by passion, ethics and lots of great ideas; some ours and some those of our clients.
We’ve always understood our software to be an infinite journey. One that requires us to adapt to new technologies, to innovate, and to respond to the evolving needs of our clients.
The ethos is built around collaboration and around governance principles that respect not just those who use LightRocket but those whose image might be stored in our systems. In a world where our lives are lived increasingly online, it’s about safeguarding consent and protecting privacy wherever and however we can.
The result is the LightRocket of today. A system that combines decades of media and archive know-how with the latest AI technology and one of the most sophisticated consent management tools you’ll find.
Meet the founders

Co-founder
Peter Charlesworth
Peter read Film and Photographic Arts in London and taught photography for a while before deciding the darkroom was too small a room to spend a career in. He spent the next year crossing the Middle East and East Africa in an old Land Rover, shooting for charities and environmental organisations.
A commission from Time Magazine in Beirut turned that trip into a long career in photojournalism.

Co-founder
Yvan Cohen
Yvan read politics at SOAS in London with a loose plan to get to Asia and into journalism. An assignment in Bangkok in 1990 provided the opening, and became a career photographing for many of the world’s major publications.
He co-founded LightRocket and still takes any excuse to get out of the office and shoot.
We’d love to explain more…
