What happens when nobody can find the photograph, or prove it's been cleared
A public body produces images constantly. Ministerial visits, public consultations, campaign shoots, infrastructure part-built, staff at work. Most of it lands on a shared drive named after whoever set it up, and a good deal of it shows members of the public who were told it was for one particular purpose.
Two things can go wrong here: finding the right photograph for a publication, and establishing whether you are allowed to use it. Both can take an immense amount of time, because the consent, if anyone collected it, is in the inbox of the press officer who ran the shoot and has since moved on.
None of this feels urgent, until it is. An information request arrives, a photograph appears in a campaign it was never cleared for, or the person in it asks for it to come down and nobody can say where it has gone.

Accurate search
Search by keyword, caption, date, location or your own fields. The photograph from the consultation two years ago takes seconds to find rather than a morning of emails.
Who can see what
Set access and permissions. A press officer downloads at full resolution, a contractor sees only the campaign they worked on, and neither can see the full archive.
Sending files
Files are shared as a link that expires and caps downloads, rather than as an attachment you cannot withdraw once it is in someone's inbox.
Consent linked to the person
The release travels with the person, not the photograph. What it covers and when it runs out is checked against every image of them.
A record of what happened
Every view, download and share is logged, so the answer to an information request is accurate and takes seconds to find.
Keep your media library compliant and up to date
The work looks the same. The difference is that each of these questions now has an answer that takes seconds:
- Who is in this photograph, and what did they agree to?
- Which images can go in the annual report, and which cannot?
- Who has downloaded this file since we published it?
- What do we have that shows this site before the works started?
- What should have been deleted by now, and has it been?
Consent that has expired takes the image out of circulation on its own, rather than depending on somebody remembering the date. When a member of the public withdraws, every photograph covered by that consent comes out of circulation in the same action, including for anyone holding a share link.

Where is the data held?
On AWS, encrypted in transit and at rest, inside a network of its own. We can share exactly where and in which region, along with our full infrastructure and disaster recovery detail, on request. See our Security page for more.
Can LightRocket integrate with the systems we already run?
Yes. An API and a set of integrations connect the platform to the systems your department already uses.
What happens to images when their consent runs out?
They come out of circulation automatically. The consent records hold the expiry (once an expiry is reached the image comes out of circulation automatically), and the audit trail shows what happened and when.
How many people can use LightRocket?
As many as your package's allowance covers. Most departments have room for press officers, contractors and agencies without affecting their pricing plan, and additional users beyond that are a small added cost.
Can we show exactly where an image has been used, if we're asked?
Yes. Every view, download and share is logged as part of the audit trail, so a question about where an image appeared or who accessed it is answered from the record rather than reconstructed from memory.
